Roadside fuel delivery: questions to ask dispatch

Running out of fuel raises two different questions: whether delivery is available for your enrollment and what you will pay for the fuel. Use this guide to ask the right questions before arranging service.

Confirm fuel-delivery eligibility first

Fuel delivery is described here as general roadside guidance. Confirm whether your issued online enrollment terms include it, any delivery allowance, the fuel type available and the cost of fuel itself. Do not treat this guide as adding a service that is absent from your enrollment confirmation.

Give the correct fuel and location information

Provide your vehicle’s make and model and the fuel type specified for it. Do not guess if you are unsure; ask the provider how to confirm. Share the road, direction, nearest exit or landmark, and a callback number.

Tell dispatch if you suspect the problem is something other than an empty tank. A vehicle that will not start or has stalled may need different assistance. If the wrong fuel was added, explain that before trying to restart the vehicle.

Ask what you will pay

Delivery assistance and the cost of the fuel are separate questions. Confirm whether fuel itself is included, the amount that can be delivered, any event limit, and any out-of-pocket charge. The amount delivered may be intended only to help you reach a nearby station.

A website summary does not establish that all fuels, vehicles, or locations can be served. If delivery is unavailable or unsafe, discuss the permitted alternative with dispatch.

Electric vehicles need a different conversation

An electric vehicle with a depleted driving battery does not use conventional fuel delivery. Tell dispatch it is an EV and ask which assistance is available under your program. Do not assume mobile charging is included.

Stay reachable

Keep your phone available for dispatch and provider updates. Do not leave a safe location to walk along a highway for fuel. Follow emergency personnel’s instructions if the vehicle presents an immediate roadway hazard.
